TCL unveiled three new budget-friendly smartphones at the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona. The TCL 40 X 5G, TCL 40 XE 5G, and TCL 40 XL are all set to launch in the US only with price tags ranging from $149 to $199. TCL 40 X 5G
Starting with the TCL 40 X 5G, this phone boasts a 50MP rear camera along with two 2MP modules and an 8MP front-facing camera. It comes with a 6.56” display with HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. Powered by the 7nm Dimensity 700 chipset, this phone has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (expandable up to 1TB via the microSD slot). It also features face unlock and a side-mounted fingerprint reader, as well as a 5,000mAh battery. It has a starting price $199.
TCL 40 XE 5G – Cheap 5G
Next up is the TCL 40 XE 5G, the company’s cheapest 5G phone yet. It has the same Dimensity 700 chipset as the TCL 40 X 5G and features a 6.56” HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It also comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (expandable via microSD). The main camera on the rear only gets a 13MP sensor (with two 2MP helpers), while the front-facing camera remains at 8MP. It also has face unlock, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and a 5,000mAh battery. TCL 40 XE 5G is $20 cheaper than TCL 40 X 5G, priced at $169.
TCL 40 XL
Finally, there is the TCL 40 XL, a 4G phone with a larger 6.75” display. It features a 50+2+2MP triple camera on the back and an 8MP camera on the front. The storage on the XL is upsized to 128GB (expandable with microSD cards by up to 512GB), though RAM remains at 4GB. Powered by the Helio G37, a 12nm chip, this phone has a 5,000mAh battery, face unlock, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. This is cheapest phone from the series with $149 price. All three phones come with competitive specs and affordable price tags, making them an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers. The TCL 40 XL is set to launch in May, while the TCL 40 X 5G and the TCL 40 XE 5G are expected to hit the market in June.
